E’s Difficult

While wading through edits (if 1 is abominable and 10 is tolerable, my current MS is a solid 2.5 with aspirations for 4, maybe 5) I spotted an erroneous E.  E is the most commonly used letter in the English language, yet this does not give ‘E’ the right to perch itself on the ends of words where it is most unwelcome.

My sleekit E was lurking at the end of loath, turning my loath into loathe, and rendering my sentence nonsensical.

Loath: Reluctant or willing.  I’m loath to keep editing.

Loathe: A strong dislike for something.  I loathe editing.

That’s not true actually; I rather enjoy editing.  It can be satisfying, like tidying under the bed, or attacking dusty cornices with the hoover attachment.  What I loathe is hour upon hour of reading the same bloody text, trying to spot all the daft errors and unnecessary words.  Oh, how I am loath to continue…

…but continue I must.
